GUILFORD SECURITY PATROL UPDATE

We are pleased to be able to say that Guilford had the foresight to initiate our security patrol program in 1992 prior to all the publicity about neighborhood crime prevention becoming so prevalent. The result of these years of patrols has been a dramatic reduction in the amount of petty crime in our neighborhood.

On Monday, July 2nd, Securitas will replace Crown Security as the security company managing the operations of the Security Patrol. Securitas is the largest and most respected security company in the United States. It is the combination of Pinkerton, Wells Fargo, Burns, American Protective Services, First Security and many other regional security services under one umbrella.

If you would like Securitas to check on your home when you are away, you will need to call (443) 436-3247 at least three to four days in advance of your departure and leave your name, address, phone number and the dates of your departure and return on this voice mail line. This is the phone number for the Branch Manager of Securitas, Greg Neal. He has taken personal responsibility to make sure that all vacation requests are followed through. In addition, each time a guard stops to inspect your home, the guard will leave a small slip of paper indicating the date, time and results of their inspection. The guards will also pick up any packages and newspapers that are left on your property while you are on vacation.

All residents of Guilford will  receive the phone number of the patrol car and their schedule. The patrol provides many services to the community beyond patrolling the streets; including escorting members into their homes, providing escort if neighbors are walking between homes late at night, responding to house alarms (including assisting the police in locating the owner of the home), checking members’ homes when they are out of town, even locating and returning lost pets to their owners! When a member calls, the response time from the patrol is only about a minute. Frequently it can take fifteen or twenty minutes for city police to respond to a call or a security system alarm because of their heavy load. Our patrols have assisted the police on several occasions and the Northern District police headquarters fully support this program.

The Guilford Association manages the patrol with fees billed annually, and concurrently with the Association dues. This patrol has made Guilford an even better community and we urge everyone to participate. We have been able to keep the cost of the program to around $5 per week - so for the next year the cost will be $300.

Finally, we would all like to thank Stuart and Brenda Brooks for their many years of involvement in the establishment and operation of the Security Patrol.
